Rick Ross's song "U.E.N.O." and the rap glorification of date and gang rape

This week Rick Ross was dropped by one of his sponsor's Reebok for his pro-date rape song "You Ain't Even Know It" (U.E.N.O.). The feminist group, UltraViolet, utilized the power of social media to start a movement to end pro-rape song lyrics. This is certainly not the first womanizing song Ross has released, his song "Pop That" went viral with the influx of Twerking videos on YouTube. So, let this be a platform to start discussing the dangerous nature of song lyrics. Rap is a form of musical expression and we do live in a nation founded upon the Freedom of Speech, but glorifying abuse, domestic violence, and rape is entirely unacceptable. His apology stated, "I am a man, a father, and a son." As a father and a son, he of all people should have understood while making this track the danger it poses to both young boys listening to it and the women of the world. It is time that we call for a revolution in rap music, time to have the male artists speak out against rape and violence.
